"Wolverton" on The Sound Shelter
"If you want to record in a professional studio, with an engineer that cares as much about your project as you do, has plenty of equipment and sounds to choose from, all at a reasonable price, The Sound Shelter is exactly where you need to go.
My name is Kevin Robison, and my worship band, Wolverton (from Toccoa, GA) spent a week last spring recording our first album at The Sound Shelter. Having a week to get all of your tracking done can be pretty stressful. Only a couple of our musicians in our 7 piece band had ever stepped foot in a studio or had any recording experience. So while there was a lot of humbling that took place, Brett Stewart, our producer, was so helpful in helping us accomplish all of our goals and make it a stress free, enjoyable experience. From encouraging each of us through our parts, hearing our clear vision for our album, to helping us get every sound the way we had envisioned it. This was the perfect place for us to record our album.
He helped us work at a speed that would allow us to get everything done that we needed to accomplish, while keeping our energy up so that we were able to give our best at each instrument for the album. In fact, he worked beyond our original time slots the last couple of days so that we would not have to make an extra trip up to Nashville. All without charging us extra or slowing down in enthusiasm and work ethic.
The studio is extremely comfortable with plenty of places to relax when you need a break. The tracking rooms are spacious so you never feel cramped. They work really hard to make sure they serve your needs and that you are comfortable when working on a project.
For each instrument, Brett made sure we got the exact sound we were looking for, particularly with bass. We spent ample time working on different basses and amps to ensure that we got the best tone we possibly could to fit our project. The tone of the bass on our album turned out amazing. He was also quick to suggest changes in parts that we needed to simplify, all helping us achieve the best possible sounds for the album. We never felt rushed or like we were just ‘getting the job done.’ Instead, again, they care just as much about the outcome of your project as you do.
Following our time there, the process for mixing was just as enjoyable. Brett was always patient with any changes we wanted to make, and the creative liberties he took only suited our vision. He didn’t rush this process either and made sure we had a finished product that we could be proud of. He went way above and beyond our expectations.
I have had multiple recording experiences in my life, this was by far my favorite project and The Sound Shelter was our perfect stop for getting our album done. I look forward to recording there again and would highly recommend anyone to do their next project there."
