"Robison Kids" on The Sound Shelter
"My siblings and I decided we needed to record some music together for ourselves and for our family. We researched several studios across middle Tennessee and were quite overwhelmed with all of the choices and even more overwhelmed with the prices! We contacted Brett with Sound Shelter and we were quite impressed with the cost as well as the set up of the studio and artist area.
My siblings and I came in from different states, as we are spread out a bit. We had zero time for pre-production and we had one day to compose, arrange and record. Brett was un-fazed by our lack of prep, and had the greatest patience as we started this project from scratch in the studio with him. Many engineers would have scoffed at this. Brett was excited to see how we would create, rather than being concerned about time wasted. He was was also full of ideas that helped the direction we were headed.
The studio looked great! Everything was set up and ready to go for us. There was no down time in preparing the studio, an issue I have run across many times in the past.
Brett was quick to add input and suggestions as well as let us do our thing the way we wanted to do it.
We were able to arrange, record and finish 4 songs that day. It was an amazing time!
The studio is warm and inviting, which helped with our creativity. There are couches and chairs in the control room as well as a secondary room, so we were able to record while others were preparing different parts in another room. Having several vocal booths helped us isolate and focus on the vocals and record in record time.
The instrument rooms are amazing as well! We were able to record as many instruments as we wanted at any given time.
The vibe was great and I really have to give props to Brett for his continued patience as we started at 10am and did not complete until 10pm. We were all tired and cranky at the end, but Brett continued with a smile and you can really tell he loves what he does.
Will I book The Sound Shelter again?
Yes! Anytime I record in the future, this will be the first stop.
I am a recording artist and so is one of my younger brothers. We have recorded in many studios around town, and we each believe The Sound Shelter to be the best. It's a professional studio with a down-home feel. There is no pressure to be the best of the best. It's a place where you feel at home to create and record with ease and comfort. No one rushes you along, and there are no limitations that we ran across.
They have a great selection of gear and that can be helpful to an artist who is working on a budget.
We were also able to bring in all of our gear and there was plenty of room for these items without any crowding.
I plan on recording my next project here. "
